C47 – SKYTRAIN

On the Saturday of Nov 24, 1973 a United States Navy airplane (C-47 SkyTrain also known as “Dakota”) was forced to land on Sólheimasandur’s black sandy beach in the south of Iceland. The crew survived the landing and the airplane’s remains are still standing at the crash site.
The black sand makes the wreckage scene look very dramatic like it was taken out of some apocalyptic zombie movie.

HAKARL

You must try it! Firstly it’s in crates covered with stones so it can ferment for several weeks. Following this curing period, the shark is then cut into strips and hung to dry for several months to get rid of ammonia. It tastes better than it sounds!

PUFFIN

To „shoot” a puffin we went to Latrabjarg – the westernmost part of Europe. It is Europe’s largest bird cliff. Due to the severe wind it’s advised to lie down on the edge of the cliff.
